What is Open Mat?

Open Mat is a sub-coverage coordination tool for fitness instructors — yoga, pilates, barre, group fitness, dance, anything class-based. When you can't teach, you post a sub request. Instructors you trust (in groups you create or get invited to) claim it. We handle the routing, reminders, and calendar sync so classes don't get missed.

How is this different from a marketplace?

Open Mat is intentionally a trusted-circle model, not a public marketplace. Your sub requests only go to people you've added to your group. No randos claiming your class. We also include an anti-poaching reminder so subbing once doesn't become a job offer.

Is Open Mat free?

Yes. Free for instructors. The whole app.

I forgot my password.

Tap "Forgot password?" on the sign-in screen, enter your email, and we'll send a reset link.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → tap "Delete my account" (below Sign out). Your Open Mat data — groups, sub requests, claims, messages, profile — is removed immediately.

Can I use Open Mat at multiple studios?

Yes. You can be a member of as many groups as you want, and post / claim subs across them. Each studio you teach at would typically have its own group.

Does Open Mat handle payments?

Not currently. You can record the agreed pay amount on each sub request as a coordination signal, but the actual money moves between you and the sub directly (Venmo, Cash App, cash, etc.).

What's the difference between "instant" and "request" claim mode?

Instant — the first qualified instructor to claim, gets it. Request — claims go to you (or an admin) to approve, so you can pick from multiple volunteers. You set this per post.

What's SOS?

If a class is about to start and nobody's claimed it, you can tap SOS to escalate — every eligible instructor gets a priority alert immediately, bypassing head-start windows. Use it when you're out of time.

What does "Pass" do? Will the poster know?

Pass silently dismisses a sub request from your feed. The poster never sees this — they're not notified. It's a low-friction way to say "not this one" without the social weight of declining. You can undo from the toast or restore from Settings → Passed requests.

Will subbed classes show up in my Calendar?

Yes. When you grant Calendar permission and claim a class, Open Mat writes the class to your system Calendar with reminders set at 24h, 4h, 1h, and 30min before. We only write — we never read your existing calendar events.

My group's admin left / I need to transfer ownership.

Ownership can be transferred by the current group owner in the group's settings. If the owner is no longer reachable, email us at [email protected] and we'll work it out.
